Whatapp tips and tricks

WhatsApp shares 10 secret tips and tricks you might not know about the app

EXCLUSIVE: WhatsApp has revealed its 10 tips for living your best life on the app, including bookmarking main messages and reading messages in 'super-stealth mode

With over 1.5 billion daily active users, WhatsApp is without a doubt one of the most popular messaging apps around.

If you use WhatsApp, you’ve probably got the basics of the app covered, but there are actually several secret features you may not be making full use of.

Speaking exclusively to Mirror Online, WhatsApp has revealed its 10 tips for living your best life on the messaging app.

From bookmarking main messages to reading messages in ‘super-stealth mode’, here are the top WhatsApp tips and tricks you might not know about the app.

1. Record hands-free voice notes

While voice notes are one of the most popular features on WhatsApp, many users are unaware that you can record voice notes hands-free.

Get features early on the WhatsApp beta program

WhatsApp said: “Did you know that if you hold down the microphone icon and swipe up, it locks the voice note function to ‘record’, leaving you able to record your message hands-free?

“Once you have finished recording your message, just press send!”

2. Bookmark your main messages

While WhatsApp does have a search function, trying to find messages from a while ago can be tricky.

Thankfully, there’s a sneaky way to bookmark key messages to make sure you can find them easily and quickly in the future.

WhatsApp said: “Make use of the ‘star’ message function where you can bookmark key messages that you can easily view again in one central location.Just press down on the message that you want to bookmark and then tap the ‘star’ icon.

“For iPhone users, you can find all your starred messages by going to Settings & Starred Messages or click the name of your chat and tap ‘Starred messages’. For Android users, tap ‘More options’, and tap ‘Starred messages’.”

3. Tailor your status to every occasion

Statuses are an easy way to tell all your contacts something at once.

WhatsApp explained: “You can set your ‘About’ status to a pre-existing option, or you can create your own for whatever activity you may be up to!

“To do so, go to Settings; [Tap your name]; About; Status, and select a pre-existing option, or, to personalise it, click Edit, select any of the pre-existing options, and share with the world what you’re currently up to.”

4. Set your phone aside but still be online

Sneaking your smartphone out to check your WhatsApp messages at work can be tricky, but thankfully there’s a way to check your messages without even touching your phone.

WhatsApp said: “Download the WhatsApp Web desktop app, which mirrors your phone’s conversations on your computer. This means you can send the normal WhatsApp messages, photos and GIFs from your computer, but now in double quick time.

5. Elevate your conversations with Stickers

While many people use emoji in their messages, Stickers can offer a fun alternative to jazz up your conversations.

WhatsApp said: “When you open a conversation, next to the field you input text into, there is a little

square icon with a folded side page. When you click that, it comes up with your stickers – but you can add more! Find out how to download more stickers in WhatsApp’s FAQs.”

READ MOREWhatsApp Sticker update will make your chats MUCH more dynamiThere are often times when you want to read a WhatsApp message without your friend knowing.

While there’s always the option to hide ‘Read Receipts’, this approach isn’t for everyone. Thankfully, there’s a sneaky alternative, that lets you read a full message and avoid blue ticks.

WhatsApp explained: “If you see a message come in on your iPhone’s lock screen, press down slightly on the message on the screen and it pulls up the full text, but you won’t appear to the other person that you’ve read the message. Stealthy!”

7. Pin your most important friends or groups

Scrolling through your message to find your favourite person’s chats can be annoying, but there’s actually a way to pin their conversation to the top of your inbox.

WhatsApp said: “On the iPhone, swipe to the right on the chat you want to pin to the top and then tap ‘Pin’. On Android, tap and hold on the chat and then tap the pin icon.”

8. Regain control of your groups

Have you been annoyed by a friend changing the name of a group, or switching the group photo?

Well, there’s a way to change the group settings so only you can allow these changes.

WhatsApp said: “You can change the group settings so that only admins are allowed to change group info. To do so, click on your group name and go to Group Settings; Edit group info.”

9. Find out who you talk to the most

If you’ve ever wondered who your favourite person on WhatsApp is, you’ll be happy to hear that it’s fairly straightforward to find out.

WhatsApp said: “You can find out who you send the most messages to and how much storage each person you speak to takes up by going to: Settings; Data and Storage Usage; Storage Usage; Select Contact.”

10. Manage who adds you to groups

While group chats are a useful way to communicate with your friends and family, there’s nothing annoying than being added to a chatty group with no relevance to you.

WhatsApp recently rolled out the ability to manage who adds you to groups.

It added: “To ensure that you only join groups that you

want to be in, you can manage your group permission settings.

1“Once enabled, the friend who wants to add you to a group will be required to first send you an invitation link in the app. If you accept it, you will then be added to the group. If not, the link will expire in three days.”

To enable it, go to Settings; Account; Privacy; Groups and select one of three options: “Everyone,” “My Contacts,” or “My Contacts Except.”

“My Contacts” means only users you have in your address book can add you to groups and “My Contacts Except” provides additional control for who among your contacts can add you to a group.

Google Banned 25 apps from play store

Google has banned a further 25 apps from its Play Store because of concerns they are causing Android users to be flooded with adverts.
The tech giant banned more than 50 apps last month for the same problem, with worries that the apps were clogging phones up with annoying hardware.
Now there's 25 more apps that users should really delete from their phone if they use Android, reports the Daily Express.
The latest attack is a serious one as it targeted Facebook users with stolen personal details and credentials that hackers stole from social accounts.

Google already banned 50 apps and has now removed 25 more

French cyber-security firm, Evina, made the malware discovery that the apps could infiltrate devices through offering genuine functionality.
Once the app is installed the hidden code inside it is automatically activated and can start stealing personal data.
It then waits until the user launches Facebook, at which time it can mimic popular social media sites and is also able to overlay a web browser window on top of the Facebook app.
It brings up a Facebook log in page that is incredibly like the real thing. Then users enter their username and password, which are sent on to hackers.
Evina found the malicious code in 25 apps, which Google removed as soon as it was reported to them at the end of May and they had verified the security company's findings.

You should delete the below apps now if you have them on your smartphone READ

The 25 apps are:
  • Super Wallpapers Flashlight
  • Padenatef
  • Wallpaper Level
  • Contour Level wallpaper
  • iPlayer & iWallpaper
  • Video Maker
  • Color Wallpapers
  • Pedometer
  • Powerful Flashlight
  • Super Bright Flashlight
  • Super Flashlight
  • Solitare Game
  • Accurate scanning of QR code
  • Classic card game
  • Junk file cleaning
  • Synthetic Z
  • File Manager
  • Composite Z
  • Screenshot Capture
  • Daily Horoscope Wallpapers
  • Wuxia Reader
  • Plus Weathe
  • Anime Live Wallpaper
  • Health Step Counter
These apps are no longer available to download in the Play Store so you don't have to worry about doing that mistakenly.

However if you already had them on your phone before Google banned them you will have to delete them yourself.

If you have any of the above apps, make sure you delete them immediately and also change your Facebook password.

Android warning as fake google update steals personal data from 337 apps

Malware targets popular apps including Netflix and Tinder

Android smartphone users have been warned about a fake Google update that could steal your personal data.

Researchers from ThreatFabric said the update - known as BlackRock - targeted 337 apps, including Tinder and Netflix.

They said its targets included social, networking, communication and dating, the Mirror reports

Users are being advised to check their phone update is from Google before they grant access to any of their information. In a blog about the findings, the researchers said: “One of the interesting differentiators of BlackRock is its target list; it contains an important number of social, networking, communication and dating applications.“So far, many of those applications haven't been observed in target lists for other existing banking Trojans.

“It therefore seems that the actors behind BlackRock are trying to abuse the grow in online socialising that increased rapidly in the last months due to the pandemic situation.”

The malware, dubbed BlackRock, starts by hiding its icon from the app drawer, making it invisible to the user.

It then poses as a fake Google update, and requests access to your apps.

If you grant this request, the malware can access your personal data within those apps, including your messages.

itwouldbe noted thatgoogle recently barn about a 100 app from the play store some country bann the app as well

Nigerian Doctor behind American covid-19 solution

This Nigerian Doctor In USA Is Leading Major Study On Remdesivir COVID-19 Drug

A bright doctor from the West African country of Nigeria Babafemi Taiwo is leading part of a major study on antiviral drug Remdesivir appearing to treat COVID-19, the potentially deadly respiratory disease caused by the coronavirus, which has killed more than 200,000 people around the world.

CNN interviewed Dr. Taiwo, whose name suggests he is a twin from the southwestern part of Nigeria, to discuss the promising results. Remdesivir, the antiviral drug made by Gilead Sciences, appears to help coronavirus patients recover more quickly than no treatment at all, but it does not significantly reduce death, according to preliminary data from the National

“For the first time we have a large, well-conducted trial” showing a treatment helps, he said. “This is not a miracle drug … but it’s definitely better than anything we have.”

Fauci said the partial results showed that the drug had “a clear-cut significant positive effect,” shortening the time to hospital discharge by four days. By comparison, antiviral drugs for the flu shorten illness by about one day on average and only when started within a day or two of symptoms first appearing.

In the remdesivir study, about 8% of those on the drug died versus 11.6% of the comparison group, but the difference is not large enough for scientists to say the drug was the reason.

No information was given on side effects. Fauci said full results would be published in a medical journal soon. He said final numbers might change a bit but that the study’s overall conclusion would not.

Dr. BABAFEMI TAIWO PROFILE
Dr. Babafemi Taiwo is Chief, Division of Infectious Diseases, Feinberg School of Medicine, Northwestern University, Chicago. He is also Director, Clinical Core of the Third Coast Center for AIDS Research, and Leader of the Northwestern University Site of the NIAID-funded AIDS Clinical Trials Group (ACTG). At Northwestern University, he leads clinical and translational HIV researchers from infectious diseases, hepatology, neurology, radiology, cardiology and nursing, and directs the development and implementation of NIH-sponsored interventional and observational HIV studies.

He has received research grants (to Northwestern) from industry sponsors for investigator-initiated studies. Dr. Taiwo is the Director, Research in Africa, NU Center for Global Health. He has been involved in HIV treatment, research, and training in Nigeria for two decades. His undergraduate education and initial medical training took place at the College of Medicine, University of Ibadan 1991. He is Principal Investigator of the NIH D43 Multidisciplinary NeuroAIDS Training and Research Program in Nigeria.

BRUNO: WITHOUT CONTENT WHAT IS PACKAGE

Can we meet you

as Mr Bruno?
Mr. Bruno Oaikhinan is a graduate of Economics from Edo State University, Ekpoma. He is also a graduate of Integrated Brand Experience from Orange Academy an Affiliate of Cool Brand House, Amsterdam. He worked in the financial institutions for over 10 years before starting out a business. He is married with two kids.
Can we meet Bruno the brand: i am not a dog? And Bruno’’s place
Some people think Bruno is a dog's name and I was almost believing them and starting acting like a dog until I found out that the opposite of a dog is a god. I'm a god born of God Almighty. So I'm a god, what a good thing to know that you are a god. My brand is founded on this revelations. A good god, transform lives and provides a convenient platform for people to maximise potentials and be satisfied. That's the Bruno's brand and manifest this through  Bruno's Place Unisex Salon #Ikejacitymall and #Jabilakemall

You turned 49 recently,Can you tell us a bit about the journey of your life, business.      Adventure, and family, from your first interview as entreprunuer “fresh out of bank when bbeing a banker was still the in thing. And telling people i run a beauty palor was not in vogue?
When I came out of the bank, I was referred to as a banker turned hairstylist. That really laughed me out but today I'm a successful entrepreneur transforming lives and giving hope to our community. Soon we are going global.

What was the motivation for the standard your built in to brunos place?
The motivation was to add value to people while giving glory to God.

How did you manage to scale up
I packaged myself and my brand and we are very strategic, intentional, passionate and expressive

what is your advice for people who want to build a lasting brand but are still strugging at the slippery stage.
Let them have a purpose tied to their business or brand or whatever they are doing. Values are carved out from purpose. Purpose is what you believe and stand for.
As enterprenuer and a brand specialist who has been through all the stages and how will you advice upcoming
1. Be packaged and strategic
2. Be intentional
3. Be passionate and expressive

what was the motive, innovation behind your current venture , trainning young pre-university set
There is a difference between schooling and education. Not everyone has the opportunity or wherewithal to go to school but while waiting for the opportunity  they can learn one or two skills to keep them busy. The good thing is that if you are educated on a particular skill like hairstyling, it can send you to school later. You can use your skills to make money while schooling. We have received many testimonies from students we have trained so far.

how do you see nigeria in another five years as an enterprenuer and a brand strategist in terms of our positionning and our value in the world at large.
Nigeria is a very expensive place to do business or build a Brand but if you are successful in Nigeria, I guarantee you will be successful anywhere in the world.
Nigeria is a growing economy, we have the population but upcoming business needs the support of banks, government, NGOs and also the people to patronize and appreciate our own. We are lacking in these areas in Nigeria. We are praying for a better government who is business minded, interested in transforming lives and also interested in what the international thinks of us

IMF currently said our foreign reserve is depleting what do you think is the implication of this on the economy for enterprenuers
Nigeria are mainly an import economy. The Nigeria government should encourage and support businesses that can be exported. That's the only way we can generate foreign currencies and increase our foreign reserve
What should we look out for from the bruno brands  the ember months are here?
Every business has a special season or peak periods. The ember months are our peak. We have over 100 staff to take care of customers who would be patronizing us this period. We have a lot of discounts and gifts for them.
What do you think is more important, the content or the package and why?
The content is more important. Without content what are you packaging? The content is the offering while packaging is the story behind the offering. They compliment each other

How do you detrmine the brand value of a product or service ?
It is how much COMMITTMENT, SACRIFICES and PASSION willingly  invested in building and sustaining the brand that plus the grace, mercy and favour of God that  determines the brand value.

It is indeed worth all the accolades and even more, it was birth by a detailed brand specialist whom i was furtunate to meet at lasusoc back then as an undergraduate we were both student of Public Relations and Advertising at Lagos State University. He is someone who doesn't give you the Impression, but delivers and wow you by exiding your expectations.

I remember my very first encounter with his real values, he had an assignment to write about a status somewhere and on getting there, it was the rest place of a mad man i guess not a friendly one, so he ran back, when he got go school, you can tell with the look on his face, I ask lekan what will you do about it, he said 'ill go back there and give it whatever it takes to get it done, and by sun down that day the assignment was done and submitted.
It is in deed Forifori a brand for the classedm royal and executives

No wonder Sir Jimi king would Kiss a shoe.

CONTENT VALUE VERSUS BRAND IMAGE

Most people has purchase products that that they had previously purchased previously and loved put over a period of time this product was not its self again it was not  giving the result it use to give previously, Research has shown that if you purchase a product which could be any in Nigeria today, especially if the product in question is a new offering , you might want to keep a copy of the packaging and taste or experience  as the case might be. this is basically because the quality consistency current battling the Nigeria production industry is self  a inflicted virus. respondent report that it could drop from 100% to 0 . that is if the product does not vanish entirely from the market ,it may be reduced to a redundant shelf  live .
the question comes to mind what is the real problem ?
the production environment in Nigeria is tense, but if the industry is saying this is their reason for reducing the content value of a product at the essence of its market performance which is the bottom-line we need to ask the obvious question from the brains behind the idea WHY DID YOU START AT ALL
The marathon has always been there , price will always go up
commodity will be scarce, labour will require increment in salary, maintenance will cost will go up ,competition will increase fiercely. this implies that it should be part of management head ache to make room for this things rather than allow the value of a brand to suffer the consequence of the obvious factor
most of the time the kind of situation put public relation into stress of doing damage control rather  organisation should have good Quality control in place and empower to call the short since the brand image is the face of the organisation to the consumers and end users.
 let make Nigeria Work
BUILD A BRAND THAT LAST !
